Burbur Drops - Lyme Detox

1/27/2012

This blog post is discussing Burbur detox drops only, but if you're looking for a comprehensive blog post about all detox methods you can find that post here.
The saying "you live and you learn" is very true. I've actually heard from many people that very hot showers & baths, or saunas & sunbathing all kill off Lyme disease spirochetes. This also results in feeling pretty miserable afterwards because as they die off from your body getting very heated, they die quickly and give you a herxheimer reaction.

This evening I was taking a shower and felt cold so without thinking I just made the shower nice and steamy. I spent a good 15-20 minutes in there and during the end I felt very faint. I got out and not long after it was a downhill spiral. I got pretty sick from the shower, and it took me a while to figure out what was happening. I laid in bed thinking I was catching the flu and really confused where it came from. That's when my mom brought to my attention how it happened after my very hot shower which could cause me to herx. It all made sense.

Lucky for me, I have discovered a great arsenal in the fight of Lyme disease. It is an herbal drop called Burbur, and it's made by Nutrimedix. This drop actually goes in and drains your kidneys, liver & lymphatic system very quickly of toxins. It's all natural & comes from a plant discovered in Peru.

When you get a Herx you put 8-10 drops in 1/2 cup (4oz) of water and drink every 15 minutes. Within an hour or two you will be over the herx, or it will be greatly reduced. A herx that could last 1-2 days is MAJORLY downsized with the aid of this. It is honestly an amazing supplement I HIGHLY recommend to any Lyme patients going through treatment!!

I am now getting on a protocol of using the Burbur 3 times a day at a maintenance dose. This way I am stopping the toxin buildup before it can become a serious problem.

You can buy the Burbur HERE.

If you also want to detox your nervous system then I suggest buying the Burber & Pinella combo drops, which also includes Pinella as a nerve stem detox. I add in the Pinella on days when my nervous system symptoms are at the forefront of my herx.

I hope it can bring someone else relief & also warn everyone to be careful at which temperature you take your showers!

Xoxo,
Christina

UPDATE: 5/17/2015
I noticed this page gets viewed a lot, so I wanted to add an update. Since the original post I have used Burbur as part of my daily life. I can't go without it. If I could only keep 1 item in my arsenal it would hands down be the Burbur. I do about 3 cups a day, sometimes more if I am feeling like the herx is pretty intense. Showers are more bearable now, but spending time in the heat of the sun certainly brings on a herx. Since I know that now I start to detox immediately after coming inside with the Burbur and it makes a world of difference. I hope this can bring relief to anyone else!

Burbur works great also to detox Candida, so if that is your issue that its a great item there as well.

UPDATE: 1/30/2020
I have a full Detox Guide which is dedicated to explaining all the methods and ranking them by Most Gentle to Least Gentle. You can find it HERE.

Hi Ladies, I just checked out Burbur online and found it was $24 for 60 drops. I have seen recommendations of 6-10 drops per dose, repeating every 10 minutes until symptoms subside. What is a daily maintenance dose? How much do you end up spending each month for Burbur? Have you tried Pinella? Brain fog is a big issue for us.
Thank you!

I just ordered the Burbur because I have read online that if you use that along with Pinella which my doctor had already prescribed to me that together they are a strong arsenal against the dreaded brain fog and Herx that I have been dealing with. Thank you for this page.

Tania, you can make your own burbur tinture! Just put the dried herb in a Mason jar and pour a good quality brandy covering one inch above all the herb to keep any pathogens at bay. Mark the date made and all the ingredients including the proof of the alcohol. (Which should be at least 80 proof:). Place in a dark place for 4-6 weeks. Shaking everyday. (I place wax paper doubled over between the glass and lid so the alcohol doesn't erode the metal lid!) I saved all my tinture bottles so I can reuse them with my homemade! Hope this helps keep cost down!

Hello Lourdes,
I would love to make my own tincture, but have had no luck finding a source for the dried burbur herb. (I also searched using the plant's latin name- Desmodium Molliculum) Can you please share your source? Thank you for sharing this money saving tip!

I make my own tinctures and Lourdes instructions are correct. However she did not say that she had in fact MADE any burbur tincture, she just told you how. There is absolutely no info online even about where this stuff comes from let alone where to buy it.

Thanks for the burbur tip ! When i am in a herx i get my eight year old to massage my back and legs with one of those big massagers. I am absolutley amazed how much better I feel after she works on me.Being a massage therapist myself you think I would understand that . Have you ever used massage to help you with lymes?

Hey there!! Yes, massage therapy is so beneficial. I used to get weekly lymph massages but my therapist moved away so I haven't had one in quite some time. But I love massages, so wonderful and helpful! I will try to combine the two like you do. Thanks for sharing!

Oh my gosh, I wish I'd known this last August when I first started having herxes. I was taking one drop a day of teasel root tincture, and couldn't up my dosage for at least 6 weeks because I was in so much pain. On the upside, I will make sure to pass this info on to others I who are experiencing this. Thank you so much for your post!

Does anyone know if burbur makes you detox from your pain medicine? My Lyme is so severe that I'm on pain medicine and I'm scared the burbur will send me in to withdraws and that would be horrible. Anyone on pain medicine and take it? Thanks for the help!

I take tramadol for pain control and also take burbur-pinella when I herx, it doesn't impact my pain control meds. It's a wonderful herx buster I don't know what I'd do without it.

Hello yes I am on pain meds as well. This is a life saver, it has homeopathics to go to places where your toxins are building up and it helps pain as tremendously. I can't take 1 drop of samento but can take 5 drops with Burbur Pinella. so worth it for anyone really. I feel it cleaning my nerves in my legs

This lyme disease is changing my life and I really want to help out people that are going throught this as well because I felt lost and our life changed, it was horrible because we did not know what she had until I found the right doctor that did a lyme disease test.

Hello!
It's great to hear that there is something that can greatly reduce a herx, but I have a question that I have been unable to find anywhere on the net. How exactly does it work? I understand it drains the kidneys and liver as you mentioned but does it also induce bowel movements? If it opens things up they have to go somewhere which has been my problem, the load is so heavy and the bugs are just lingering in my system. I of course do many things to open the pathways but this is a concern for me with burbur so I hope I can get a response soon before I buy.
Thanks so much!!

Hi there! So when it drains the kidneys you will find you have to pee a lot more, so staying hydrated is imported as the toxins are expelled there. The liver and lymphatic system will dump into the colon, so you need to keep things moving to allow those toxins to exit there. If for example you are prone to constipation the toxins can reabsorb through your colon. You can take magnesium to help counteract this and make sure the toxins go out properly. Some people also take binders such as charcoal or Cholestyramine to hold onto the toxins until they make their Way out. I hope this helps!

Hi Christina!
Thanks for the prompt response! I’ve always had issues with constipation, even as a kid, the back and forth between diarrhea. I think I was diagnosed with IBS at like 12 which is kind of sad :( But over the last 6 or so years it’s been constipation, and as of recent a lot of liver and gallbladder issues. My mom had her gallbladder out at 28, (24 years ago) something I would never do knowing what I know and the alternative way of life I lead but yes digestion has been a major issue for me always.
I currently take bile salts with most meals to aid in breaking down fats as well as digestive enzymes to help as most of my organs aren’t functioning at normal. I drink dandelion root tea, lemon and ginger tea, take Dr. Christopher’s Lower Bowel formula throughout the day miralax on and off and if I absolutely need to senna tea. I was taking 500-1000 mg of magnesium glycinate but I did run out recently, but have been substituting the last 2 days with the Calm plus calcium combo. I also have a rebounder and a biomat but if things aren’t flowing the Herxing is bad and I just generally don’t feel well!
About a year or two ago I was doing water bucket enemas but they are very time consuming and I currently only have 1 bathroom in my house with 3 people, but we are moving to a newly built house with multiple bathrooms in 2-3 weeks so I can be out of this mold ridden home I’ve been living in for the last 5 years! (I just kind out about the mold issue which I know has been a huge factor in my inability to get well.)
If you have any other suggestions I would greatly appreciate it! I know every body is different but suggestions are always helpful!
Thanks again!!
Becky

I completely understand that struggle! I too deal with stomach issues big time, and it is my biggest area of grief. I tended to have more IBS-D in the beginning but then it began alternating and I went through the ringer of trying things which work. My secret weapons are aloe Vera juice (drinking it regularly helps), and the essential oil blend called Digize. It's incredible! You massage it into the colon and it doesn't take too long to get things moving and shaking. I recommend trying both to see if it can help you out!

Coffee enemas work great! I do activated charcoal before bed and coffee enema in the morning

Becky, first change your magnesium glycinate to magnesium citrate. Reason being is that magnesium citrate has a laxative effect, and glycinate was designed not to have this effect. Also, find a good Naturopathic Physician to test you for both food sensitivities and food allergies (they are two sifferwnt things). There are a lot more that can be done for people who have conatioation and/or IBS, but it’s best to see your Naturopathic Physician. Best wishes!

Bugs aren't the problem, it's your bodies load and response. Burbur Pinella is not just an herb, it has homeopathics in it directing the herb to grab onto toxins in certain areas of the body including brain, liver, kidneys etc. This with chlorella before meals is a life saver

Hey ladies I too have been battling lyme for quite some time now and bought some pinella & burbur! Although I'm having trouble understanding what exactly a herx reaction is? I have mostly cognitive symptoms rather than physical, is it this way for anyone else? If so what are the exact symptoms of a herx both physically and neurologically so I know when to take my pinella & burbur?! Any response will be greatly appreciated.

Hi there! Everyone herxes differently, and even for me I feel my herxes in a variety of different ways. Sometimes it’s very cognitive & neurological and I will have terrible brain fog, difficulty with word recall, a migraine & feeling very neurologically overstimulated. Other times it will feel exactly like a flu with a fever, aches, headache, fatigue etc. And other times it’s even more different, with stomach symptoms & pain. Herxing can be tough to spot at times!
My suggestion is this: if you suddenly feel worse in any way, your symptoms flare up or you just feel extra crummy then try doing the burbur and pinella detox (about 2-3 cups, 1 cup every 15 mins) and see if it improves or eases at all. If it does then you definitely know it’s a herx! That’s what I had to do for at least a year until I could better identify what my herxes presented like.

Hey Christina thanks so much for the prompt response! That pretty much sums up all of confusions but I just have one follow up question! Now you say 2-3 cups...my pinella and burbur are in the same dropper made by nutramedix which I have heard good things about. Now when you say 2-3 cups, exactly how many drops should I dilute into 1 cup of water? This is what has kept me from trying the detox because I have no idea how many drops to use!

Christina
2/19/2018 02:23:59 pm

Of course! :)
I usually put 8-10 drops into a small cup, which holds about 4oz, and I sip it during a 15 min period. I typically do about 3 cups like this back to back.

I haven’t used the Pinella & Burbur combo, however I did use them individually and I would put 8-10 drops of each in a cup so I would assume that the combo works the same way!

I am very grateful for all the info. and support here.
I just started the Cowden Protocol 2 days ago and the headaches have been severe. I am thinking of taking the 20 drops of Burbur Pinella combo twice a day down to 2 drops a day and working up. Has anyone does this on the Cowden protocol?
I'm not sure if I should take the parsley down a little also. I think its the Burbur Pinella causing the intense headaches. Just detoxing to fast I guess.

Hi Cheryl! The Pinella is a brain nerve cleanse, and for some people it can be too harsh in the beginning. The burbur doesn’t work neurologically at all, so you might want to try separating the two & for now only use the Burbur. That still does an incredible job of draining the liver, kidneys & lymph. Then later on down the line you can add the Pinella in as well!

It might just be too quick of a detox for you if you’re really sensitive. I’ve never heard of that happening before personally but I would go way down from 20 drops to maybe 5-6 and see how you do. I only do 9 drops myself & I also drink it slowly in water over the course of 15 minutes. So perhaps you just did too much too quickly?

Leah
8/31/2018 09:20:49 am

Ok, yes. I did drink it quite fast. I was testing it to see if it would stop my herx. I take lauricidin for my Lyme and 1 hr prior I took 6 scoops. So when I started to herx I took the burbur/pinella. The flush hot flash happened immediately and I watited a little while and then took some modified citrus pectin and all my symptoms vanished. So I’m assuming I need the pectin or charcoal to bind the toxins that are being moved with the tincture. Does that make sense?

Christina
9/13/2018 03:41:33 pm

Leah,
Yes, correct! If you do the Burbur and then wait a bit and take some kind of binder like charcoal or pectin then it will soak up the toxins which have been dumped by the liver. That can be extremely helpful to use the two together like that!

this stuff is incredible, thank you! I just need one drop 3 times daily. I'm extremely sensitive. I also use ionic zinc from good state to strengthen the immune system, must have in your cabinet. And I used pure turpentine from diamond G (oil from pines), extremely harsh stuff, but killed the lyme. Don't use it for too long though, it kills all the bacteria in the gut. Now detoxing EBV along with vitamin D droplets (10) krill oil from Neptune, iodine, b12 (methyl and asco) , niacinamide and collagen hydrolysate from great lakes mixed with vitamin C. Get your vitamin and mineral levels checked with a quantum resonance magnetic analyzer and read the numbers, you should be in the middle of the green zone of the test results.

Brain feels crazy too. I guess i have had lyme 10 or many more years but only finally told yes its lyme and active 2 days ago. 2 years after havibg daughter. I pray she misses it somehow. Anyhow, i was given 3 weeks doxy i ordered burb and pinella i always have used Epsom but need to more. I take magnesium d3 and b12 i bought black seed cumin oil before told had lyme. I have probiotics and digestive emzymes and zinc.
Othet than pain in joints or stuff muscles and fatigue and sensitivity to so many foods the burning chest is a huge bother and so uncomf.
Epsom helps. But cant always get to it.

I am torn on these doxy pills. I have been on antibiotics too many times in life before I became "auto immune" for tonsils bronchitis sinus infections etc until I started making self fight it but mostly normal sicknesses stopped when I became chronically sick.
I dont want to ruin anything else with more abx. I took for 1 day stopped yesterday then said let me take today see if feel better once the burbu and pinella arrive. (Which I think I may have drank too much but used 20 drops sipped over an hour maybe) and then little after 2nd doxy i drank like 10 ish drops. I got real flushed I did see someone say they did too .anyhow thanks for your awesome blog I just found .I always wanted to help people with auto immune issues but never felt like I found enough answers and now well. Game changed i guess. Still unsure if it caused shogrens or isnt sjogrens at all but i have all the symtoms. Dryness and pain fatigue stomach etc ....its too late to be going further down the rabbit hole lol I call it. Thank you for your time.

This is a wonderful post— gives me hope that I may one day get out of the rut of endless herxing with no progress. Wondering if binders can be taken alongside the Burbur? Anything and everything I read, or hear from practitioners is about having enough binders to deal with the herxes (funny how my spell checker wants to change that to hexes— that’s about right, lol!). I’ve been loading up on charcoal, chlorella...but Cowden site seems to recommend against charcoal with their protocol. Very unusual, can’t imagine why! But would it still be true if only using the Burbur, do you know? Thanks in advance, and for your wonderful blog which I just found yesterday when I was looking up something else.

Eliz,

Hi there! I hope the Burbur will be very helpful to you, I still use it to this day every day! I find it to be so vital!
As far as using binders with it, yes you absolutely can! Just make sure you do the Burbur first, then wait at least an hour before taking binders (so it doesn’t soak it up). In my early days with Lyme I used cholestyramine as a binder which I got from a compounding pharmacy and what I would do is I would get a foot bath filled with Epsom salt, and in the mean time I would drink 4 cups of Burbur. Then I would wait an hour and drink a cholestyramine. Thatsas my daily regimen no matter what. You can of course use any of the other binders, I love activated charcoal personally, it works wonders. Some people also really love Pecta-Sol and find it to be gentle and useful. Whichever binder you like to use best, go with that! I hope you can find some relief!

For anyone who wants further info about burbur & burbur-pinella, www.nutramedix.ec is the site they publish research (mostly done with South American universities, but also anecdotal/ patient-based research from a few notable US Lyme-literate doctors). Burbur/ burbur-pinella shouldn't make you herx, it helps your body deal with whatever antimicrobial you're actually taking- that is what causes a herx.

Reading Lee Cowden, MD's info on Lyme & Nutramedix's own info (at that site above) is important if you are doing the Cowden protocol.

Their recommended burbur dose for immediate herx use is 10 drops under the tongue, hold for a minute and then drink water.

Personal experience has been under a dr in 2008, then using for herxing under a LLMD 2009-11. Currently, following a major relapse, doing full Cowden protocol in combo with oral abx, after a course of IV.

To people new to Lyme (like some comments say - even though they're old, it's still happening); read as much as you can. ILADS.org- patient resources; Global Lyme Alliance, Tick Talk Ireland, lymediseaseuk.com - all have constantly updated info. Some have helpful groups on Facebook too.

No disrespect to bloggers - I blog too & knowing other people are writing about the same things you're experiencing (& that you're not going mad!) is SO helpful. But always balance personal stories with as much factual info as possible. We actually know so much more about Lyme (honestly...!) than in 2014; LOADS more since 2008, when I was first diagnosed; & ongoing research is covering more areas. Concerns about the tick population & change from 'official sources' about old IDSA guidelines in the US are all positive moves. There needs to be so much more research, but there are many good, factual sources available now.

I am on antibiotics rampfacin and Clarithromycin twice a day I have had Lyme’s for 11 years - undiagnosed until last week. I have tested positive for Borrelia, Bartonella and mycoplasma.
I have used Cowden protocol that saved me I’m convinced for the 11 years that I have been functional. How ever this year I started to get nerve damage as a result of neuro Lyme’s. I would like to ask has anyone noticed a change in the Nutramedix formula I have a bit of burbur left in my old bottle purchased in 2017 but the new bottle the formula looks and different and does not smell as potent. Has anyone been buying this in 2019 and can they tell me if it works the same. Thanks

Great info. I am battling this nightmare myself.
Between the pain behind my head & nerve pain & facial palsy I am about to lose my mind! I do feel the hero this bout on doxy is sooo much better. Getting worried I may never recover, life has changed so much in 13 months. Started burbur panella a month ago (slowly)

I have been using BURBUR for quite some time myselfI tell all my friends they need to have this for part of the regimen. But it bothers me that there's ethanol alcohol unless I have celiac and I also have multiple chemical sensitivity's and very much prefer her not to use anything with ethanol alcohol is there any other options I love the new dramatics protocol but I could really use an alcohol free regimen

Put the drops in warm water for 45 mins and the alcohol will evaporate. Then drink it with your herbs.

A shower does not kill of spirochetes. It's your adrenals, lymph, toxins being released. Almost all lyme symptoms are from the response from the host.

I am SO glad I found this blog and this post! One lingering issue I have from lyme is that toxins build up in my lymph in my neck causing pain in my neck and occipital.
I started using the burbur drops and after a few days the lymph lump (and the pain) is gone!
I am also super sensitive and this was a gentle regimen.
Thank you!

Tara-I have been sick since July, finally diagnosed in September. I have that exact issue-swollen, tender lymph node, neck and head ache. I just ordered Burbur Pinella. Can you let me know how much you took to begin with that resolved the occipital pain?

Thanks for sharing!

I have a question regarding the usage of Burbur Pinella: I do not believe I have Lyme, but I do suffer from brain fog and frequent migraines, so a friend of mine who does have Lyme recommended it to me. I have only taken it for a few days, but did notice an increase in neck pain and stiffness as well as a headache several hours after taking the recommended 20 drops in 4 oz of water. I’ve never done a detox like this and I’m wondering if this is a common experience. Otherwise, am I over doing it? Do I not need a detox and I’m doing more harm, hence the side effects? Or is this typical of a brain/nerve detox? The occurrence of neck pain/stiffness/headache are common for me but not usually several days in a row. Please let me know if anyone has an answer or suggestion. Thank you!

Hi there! The Pinella is used as a “brain/nerve” cleanse and for some people it can be a bit much. Others don’t tolerate it well at all period (with or without Lyme). I would recommend trying just the Burbur alone if possible for your purposes of detoxing. I have family who are otherwise healthy but have used Burbur alone for some detox on occasion and they always felt great from it. It wouldn’t give you any symptoms if you don’t “need” it because it simply helps move your natural detox pathways along. I’d recommend giving that a try!

Hi everyone, I have to add that our brains do have trash that needs expelling as you know. However if you sleep on your back or on your face the toxins do not release into your Lymphatic System well. Sleeping a good number of hours on your side allow the trash to exit to your Lymph Nodes and start the process of clearing your brain. Here's the connection on this event; when you get up or when you wake from a good sleep and you have great clarity, have solutions in you mind, have great ideas that suddenly are so easy to understand? Many people have revelations on creative works at this point because the trash in your brains was able to download to your Lymphatic System to exit out of your body thus allowing you to 'Think' clearly! Yes, of course the brain trash from all your thinking the previous day or days is still on the Lymph road to get completely out of your body but remember if you're not sleeping on your side then the brain trash isn't exiting very well. If that is happening then you're probably going to have some mind issues that will not resolve itself. Our cells are engines and they put out trash, this trash needs to be flushed daily.

Hi!

One important question that i want you to answer please!
When i'm visiting different websites to read more about those burbur-pinella herbs they mention several times things about nerve cleanse. My question is if that means that except cleaning the nerves, does it it simultaneously repair nerve injury? Like nerves in the spinal cord or in the brain? I'm very thankful for some your reply!

Thanks in advance!

I want to interject that I used to think that it was a detoxing hurts from the shower… Right now come to believe since I have such mold related issues that pretty much all showers have more between the tiles. Especially if your home was built prior to the last couple years when they still use green board. I think what happens is you're in the shower and that wet and especially

My daughter is positive for lyme, bart & mycoplasma. On abx finishing up 90 day course. Just met with LLMD recommended burber & pinella. different Dr. who diagnosed mycoplasma put my daughter on A-Myco Byron White drops. She stays in be until 6pm every day. She doesn't like drops in water. Can she put them directly on/under tongue instead? Terrible leg ichiness and pain at 3:00 am after taking drops at midnight. I gave her benedryl thinking it was an allergic reaction to one of the drops. Has anyone had such an allergic reaction? Which drops do you think caused it? If not an allergic reaction, what is this?
